Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021
On 21st December, 2021, the Parliament passed The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021.
The Bill amends the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the Representation of the People Act, 1951 to implement certain electoral reforms.
Need
- For elections to be fair and free, one condition is the systematic registration of voters. Which is why cleaning electoral rolls of multiple registrations for the same voter ID has long been needed.
- Not that repeated entries are always intentional; a change of address, for example, may mistakenly leave the voter’s earlier address untouched, thus registering him twice.
