July Charter

On 11th December 2025, Bangladesh announced that it will hold its 13th National Parliamentary Election on 12th February 2026, along with a referendum on the ‘July Charter’, marking the country’s first general election since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024.

  • The July Charter is a political reform declaration drafted under the interim administration led by Muhammad Yunus following the July 2024 protests.
  • It outlines agreed constitutional, electoral and administrative reforms negotiated with 30 political parties and was formally signed on 17 October.
