State Finance Commissions
Recently, according to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, all states, except Arunachal Pradesh, have State Finance Commissions (SFCs) in place.
- The development came after being nudged by the Fifteenth Finance Commission, ahead of the Finance Commission’s Conclave on the ‘Devolution to Development 2024’ was held on 14th November, 2024.
- Gujarat is the latest state to establish its SFC on 4th November, 2024.
About SFCs
- Constitutional Basis: The SFC was established under the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments in 1992 which aimed to strengthen local self-governance in India by providing constitutional status to Panchayati Raj institutions and municipalities.
