Panzath Nag Spring Conservation Festival

In May 2026, Panzath Nag festival, a community let spring cleaning & fish catching festival, was observed in Jammu & Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

About the Festival

  • Locally known as the Gaade Maar, it is a traditional community-driven ecological conservation practice in which villagers collectively clean a natural spring and surrounding water channels while participating in controlled traditional fish-catching activities.

Aim

  • To conserve and restore the natural spring ecosystem by removing silt, weeds, and waste materials obstructing water flow.
  • To ensure sustainable water availability for irrigation, drinking purposes, and aquatic biodiversity.
