What is right to be forgotten? What is its position in India?
Answer: Right to be forgotten is the right of the person to seek deletion of private information from the internet.
- The concept has found recognition in some jurisdiction abroad, particularly in European Union. The European Union in 2018 adopted General Data Protection and Regulation (GDPR), Article 17 of which provides for the right to erase certain categories of personal data, which is considered no longer necessary.
- Russia also in 2015 enacted a law allows users to force a search engine to remove links to personal information in ground of inaccuracy, irrelevancy and violation of law.
