Annual Exchange under India-Pakistan Nuclear Installations Pact

On 1st January 2026, India and Pakistan exchanged the list of Nuclear Installations and facilities covered under the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear Installations and Facilities (1988) between both countries.

What the 1988 Agreement Says

  • The agreement was signed on 31st December 1988 and entered into force on 27 January 1991 after ratification by both sides.
  • India and Pakistan commit to refrain from attacking, encouraging, or participating in actions that could damage or destroy each other’s nuclear installations and facilities.
  • Both sides are required to exchange information annually on 1 January regarding the nuclear sites covered under the pact.
