Henley Passport Index 2026
In January 2026, the Henley Passport Index ranked India 80th globally, up five places from 85th in 2025, reflecting incremental gains from bilateral engagements and post-pandemic travel normalisation.
- Despite the improved rank, India’s visa-free or visa-on-arrival access fell from 57 to 55 destinations, after Iran withdrew visa-free access in November 2025 and Bolivia shifted to an e-visa regime in January 2026.
- The change means Indian travellers now require prior approvals for destinations such as Tehran and La Paz.
- Several countries, including Malaysia, Kazakhstan and multiple Caribbean nations, continue to offer visa-free or VOA access, providing alternative transit and staging options for business and ....
