On 28th March, 2022, the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, 2022 was introduced in the Parliament.
- The Bill supposed to replace the Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920.
Need
Limited Ambit of Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920
- The 1920 Act provides recording only finger impressions and foot-print impressions of convicts.
- This is argued by the Centre to have provided access to a limited category of persons and a limited ambit of capturable data.
