Organic Farming: Benefits, Present Status and Future Prospects
- India's food grain production has increased from 50.8 million tonnes in 1950-51 to an impressive level of 329.7 million tonnes in 2022-23.
- This growth in food grain production in India (annual cycle growth rate of 2.71%) has outstripped the growth rate of population (1.98%) during the last 72 years.
- The systematic foundation for the development of organic agriculture sector in the country was laid through the 'National Organic Production Program' (NPOP) launched in the year 2001.
- NPOP is being implemented by 'Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority' (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. ....
