Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an alert about the Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF), a viral infection transmitted by ticks. The disease has a high fatality rate and is a significant health concern.
- Traditionally, CCHF is endemic to regions in Africa, the Balkan countries, the Middle East, and parts of Asia. However, rising temperatures in Europe have created conditions conducive to the spread of the disease.
- The first fatality from CCHF in Europe was reported in Spain in 2016. Since then, cases have been reported in Spain, Russia, Turkey, and the UK.
