In India, Hindi is the official language of the Union. International form of Indian numerals is to be used for official purposes. The Constitution also authorised continued use of English up to 25th January 1965, after which Parliament could further consider the issue. The Official Languages Act, 1963 provided for continued use of English in addition to Hindi for official purposes and transactions of business in Parliament.
