ASTROSAT

Astronomers from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) have spotted rare hot Ultraviolet (UV) - bright stars in Milky Way’s massive intriguing globular cluster called NGC 2808 that is said to have at least five generations of stars.

Features of ASTOSAT

ASTROSAT is India’s first dedicated multi wavelength space observatory. It was launched in a 650-km, near-equatorial orbit.

  • It observes universe in optical, Ultraviolet, low and high energy X-ray regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Light waves with shorter wavelengths (and higher frequencies) have more energy so types of light like gamma rays, X-rays, and ultraviolet light are more energetic than visible light.
