Institute of Eminence (IoE) Scheme

It was announced in Budget 2016-17 with the objective to empower the higher educational institutions and to help them become world class teaching and research institutions. 10 public and 10 private institutions were identified to emerge as world class teaching and research institutions.

Institutes of Eminence (IoE)

  • Public Universities:BHU, IISc, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, University of Delhi, University of Hyderabad, Jadavpur University and Anna University.
  • Private Universities: BITS Pilani, Jamia Hamdard, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Vellore Institute of Technology, Jio Institute, Bharti University, Shiv Nadar University and OP Jindal University.
  • If an institute or university is granted IoE status, they’ll be entitled for more autonomy, both administratively and academically and it will ensure better collaborations with global universities.
  • Public universities/institutes under the programme would be given 1000 crore as grant but no such grant would be provided to private universities.
