Logistics Performance Index

  • This index is released bi-annually by World Bank.
  • The parameters of the Index include:
    • Quality of trade and transport infrastructure
    • Competence and quality of logistics services
    • Efficiency of customs and border management clearance
    • Ease of arranging competitively priced shipments
    • Ability to track and trace consignments
    • Timelines of shipments in reaching destination within the scheduled or expected delivery time.
  • India ranked 44th among 160 countries in 2018 slipping from its 35th rank attained the previous year. All six parameters have dropped for India.
  • The drop in rank is especially startling considering the fact that government recently accorded “infrastructure status” to logistics sector and implemented major logistics reforms. The index thus shows the stark reality of logistics sector in the grass root level.
