China’s Zhurong Rover Lands on the Red Planet
On 14th May, 2021, the Zhurong rover and lander onboard the Tianwen-1 spacecraft landed successfully on the Martian surface, marking a historic milestone in China’s interplanetary space exploration journey. It also sent back first images from the surface of Mars.
- With the successful touchdown, China is now the second nation to successfully land a Mars rover (after the US) and the third nation to land on Mars after Russia and the US. The successful orbit insertion of the Tianwen-1 in February 2021 made China the sixth nation to do so, following NASA, the Soviet Union, the European Space Agency (ESA), India ....
