OSIRIS-Rex heads back Home with Asteroid Sample
On 10th May, 2021, NASA’s Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security, Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) spacecraft started its journey back to Earth with a bountiful sample of rocks and dust from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu.
OSIRIS-Rex Mission
- Launched on 8th September, 2016, OSIRIS-REx is NASA’s asteroid study and sample return mission. American firm Lockheed Martin built OSIRIS-REx spacecraft and operates it for NASA.
- The mission is a part of NASA's New Frontiers Programme which aims to tackle specific solar system exploration goals identified as top priorities.
