What do you understand by ethical egoism? How does it influence one’s ethical behaviour? Discuss.
Answer: Ethical Egoism is normative egoism, which states that promotion of self-interest is moral. Normative Egoism is about what humans should do or ought to do. Its other type is Rational egoism, which believes that promotion of one’s self-interest is rational. On the other hand, there is Descriptive, or Psychological Egoism, which states what humans do and claims that each person’s ultimate aim is self-interest.
Ethical egoism affects ethical behaviour in following ways:
