- Recently, the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi, collaborated with the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun, to construct a 1 km road stretch using Bio-Bitumen.
- Bio-bitumen is a petroleum-free alternative to bitumen, or asphalt.
- It is manufactured from organic materials such as bio-char, bio-oil, and lignins derived from plant cell walls.
