New Plant Species Discovered
- Recently, Indian botanists discovered two new plant species from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Arunachal Pradesh.
- The first species is Dendrophthoe longensis, an aerial stem-parasitic flowering plant found on Mango (Mangifera indica), discovered in the Long Islands of middle Andamans.
- It belongs to the mistletoe family (Loranthaceae) and is sparsely scattered in specific areas like Sigmendera and Lalaji Bay.
- The species is considered "Endangered" according to IUCN criteria.
- Petrocosmea arunachalense, a new herbaceous plant species, was discovered in the Mandla region of West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh, inside a cave.
