Artificial Rain in Delhi
- Delhi has become the first state in India to receive final clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for conducting cloud seeding trials aimed at reducing pollution.
- The initiative is coordinated by IIT Kanpur and IMD Pune.
- Artificial rain is the process of triggering rainfall by introducing specific chemicals into clouds to speed up the formation of raindrops.
- The technique, known as cloud seeding, involves spreading substances such as Silver Iodide (AgI), Potassium Iodide, Sodium Chloride and Dry Ice (solid CO₂).
- These materials serve as condensation nuclei, helping water vapor condense and merge into raindrops.
