MACE Observatory Goes Live
On 4th October 2024, the Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment (MACE) Observatory was officially opened in Hanle, Ladakh, marking a pivotal advancement in Indian astrophysics and cosmic-ray research.
- This facility is the largest imaging Cherenkov telescope in Asia and the highest globally, situated at an altitude of 4,300 meters.
- MACE is designed to detect and observe Cherenkov radiation produced by high-energy cosmic particles, such as gamma rays and cosmic rays, when they interact with Earth's atmosphere.
