India's First Multipurpose Naval Vessel Launched
On 14th October 2024, Samarthak, the first of two versatile multipurpose naval vessels developed for the Indian Navy, supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative, was launched.
- Samarthak, measuring 107 meters long and 18.6 meters wide with a displacement over 3,750 tons, was launched at the Kattupalli Shipyard near Chennai.
- This vessel marks a major milestone in India’s self-reliance initiative, ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, as it was fully designed and constructed in-house by L&T.
- Equipped with advanced capabilities, Samarthak will undertake diverse roles, including next-generation weapons trials, maritime surveillance, patrolling, and humanitarian assistance missions.
