AI Designs Complete Viral Genomes to Fight Drug-Resistant Bacteria

- AI-Designed Genomes: Researchers generated complete bacteriophage genomes using AI rather than designing individual genes or proteins.
- Genome Models: They used Evo 1 and Evo 2, genome language models trained on millions of genomes.
- Starting Framework: The models used the naturally occurring bacteriophage ΦX174 as a starting framework.
- Novel Designs: The AI-generated genomes contained new combinations of genes and regulatory elements that differed from naturally occurring viruses.
