India Leases Two MQ-9B SeaGuardian Drones

On 18th August 2026, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a ₹1,943-crore contract with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems of the U.S. to lease two MQ-9B SeaGuardian High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) to the Indian Navy for 30 months.

MQ-9B SeaGuardian

  • Type: A High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) remotely piloted aircraft system designed for long-duration surveillance and reconnaissance.
  • Maritime Surveillance: The systems will enhance the Indian Navy’s Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) across the Indian Ocean Region.
  • ISR Capability: Equipped with advanced sensors and payloads for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
