Indian Navy Inducts Nipun

On 30th July 2026, Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, delivered Nipun, a specialised Diving Support Vessel (DSV) to the Indian Navy for deep-sea diving, underwater intervention and submarine rescue operations.

About Nipun

  • Nipun is the second vessel of its class, following INS Nistar, which was commissioned in July 2025.
  • The name Nipun comes from Sanskrit and means skilled, capable or proficient.
  • It has over 80% indigenous content, highlighting India's growing capability in specialised naval shipbuilding.

Capabilities of Nipun

  • Nipun is equipped for Deep Sea Saturation Diving, allowing divers to work at significant depths for extended periods.
