Indian Navy Receives ‘Mangrol’ ASW-SWC

On 21st August 2026, the Indian Navy received ‘Mangrol’, the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kochi, marking another milestone in India’s indigenous naval shipbuilding programme.

Why is Mangrol Named So?

  • Location: Mangrol is a coastal town and minor port in Gujarat’s Junagadh district.
  • Fishing Harbour: It is known as an important harbour for the marine fishing industry.
  • Naval Legacy: The name also revives the legacy of the erstwhile INS Mangrol, an Indian Navy minesweeper that remained in service until 2004.
