Mandatory Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication

Recently, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed mandatory Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication systems in all new L, M and N category vehicles from 1 October 2028.

What is V2V Communication?

  • Technology that enables vehicles to wirelessly exchange real-time data such as:
    • Speed.
    • Position.
    • Direction.
    • Acceleration.
  • Allows vehicles to receive warnings about hazards beyond the driver's line of sight or sensor range.

Key Provisions

  • Implementation Date: New vehicles manufactured from 1 October 2028 would require V2V systems.
  • Vehicle Coverage:
    • L category: Two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
    • M category: Cars, SUVs and buses.
    • N category: Trucks and other goods vehicles.
