Answer: In India there is no central legislation that prohibits or regulates religious conversions but several states including UP, MP, Haryana, and Karnataka, have promulgated anti-conversion laws.
Several legal scholars have criticized such regulations, claiming that the concept of "love jihad" has no constitutional or legal validity. They cited Article 21 of the Constitution. Furthermore, under Article 25, freedom of conscience guarantees the practice and conversion of one's choice of faith, including not following any religion. However, no one shall be forced to practice a religion against their will.
