Recently, government of India approved implementation of Ken-Betwa Interlinking of Rivers Project. What are its pros and cons?
Answer: The Union Cabinet had approved the funding and implementation of Ken-Betwa inter-linking of rivers project which has both pros and cons.
Pros
- Provide annual irrigation of 10.62 lakh ha increasing agricultural yield.
- Ensure drinking water supply to about 62 lakhs people.
- Immense benefit to the water starved Bundelkhand region, spread across the states of MP and UP.
- Generate 103 MW of hydropower and 27 MW solar power.
- Boost socio-economic prosperity in the backward Bundelkhand region on account of increased livelihood opportunities, helping in arresting distress migration.
- Provide cheaper mode of transportation by improving navigation networks.
- Help in proliferation of diverse flora and fauna ....
