Lakkundi Temples

Recently, the Karnataka government, in collaboration with INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage), has prepared a final stage proposal to include ancient temples and monuments located in Lakkundi in the UNESCO Tentative List as World Heritage Sites.

About Lakkundi

  • Lakkundi, located in the Gadag district of Karnataka, is a historically rich town renowned for its Chalukyan-era temples, stepwells, and inscriptions.
  • It was a major cultural and religious centre during the 10th to 12th centuries under the Western Chalukyas and later under the Hoysalas.
