On 5th May 2026, MAY 2026, the Union Cabinet Mission for Cotton Productivity (2026–27 to 2030–31) to address bottlenecks, declining growth, and quality concerns in India’s cotton sector.

- Despite being one of the world’s largest cotton producers, India faces structural inefficiencies that limit its global competitiveness. Key Challenges in the Cotton Sector include:

- üDeclining growth trends in yield improvement.
- üHeavy pest and disease infestation, especially in major cotton belts.
- üIncreasing climate variability and rainfall dependence.
