Bagurumba Dance Assam

On 17th January 2026, Prime Minister participated in “Bagurumba Dwhou 2026”, a historic cultural event celebrating the rich heritage of the Bodo community, in Guwahati.

  • On this occasion, more than 10,000 artists performed Bagurumba dance.

  • Bagurumba is an ancient traditional folk dance of the Bodo community of Assam.
  • It was initially performed as a ritual dance connected with harvest, nature worship, and spiritual practices.
  • The term “Bagurumba” comes from two Bodo words:
    • “Bagu” meaning bird
    • “Rumba” meaning dance
  • It is prominently performed during the Bwisagu, the Bodo New Year, and Domasi festival.
