Recent excavations near the Kote Veerabhadreshwar Temple in Lakkundi village of Karnataka, have uncovered Neolithic-period relics.
- These findings have intensified efforts to include Lakkundi in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.
About Lakkundi
- Location: Lakkundi village is located in Gadag district, Karnataka, approximately 12 kilometers from Gadag town.
- The village was historically known as Lokkigundi.
Archaeological Discoveries
- Neolithic-period finds include a broken grey clay pot, a stone axe, cowrie shells, and a cross-shaped pedestal.
- Early historic and medieval discoveries include a stone pedestal carved with a Jina figure, inscriptions, and buried temple remains.
