Centre Launches Hydrogen Vehicle Pilot Projects

On 3rd March 2025, the Indian government initiated five pilot projects to test hydrogen-fuelled buses and trucks under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aiming to develop commercially viable hydrogen fuel technologies with a financial backing of Rs. 208 crore.

  • A total of 37 hydrogen-powered vehicles (15 fuel cell-based and 22 internal combustion engine-based) will be deployed.
  • The pilot projects will operate on 10 different routes across India.
  • Nine hydrogen refuelling stations will be set up to support these vehicles.
  • The initiative will assess the feasibility of hydrogen as a clean fuel for heavy transportation.
