In-House Judicial Enquiry
On 22nd March 2025, Chief Justice of India (CJI) initiated an unprecedented three-member in-house inquiry into the conduct of Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma following allegations of misconduct.
What is an In-House Judicial Inquiry?
- An internal mechanism to examine complaints against sitting High Court or Supreme Court Judges for misconduct not meeting the threshold of impeachment.
Origin
- In 1997, the Supreme Court constituted a committee to lay down the in-house procedure.
- The committee submitted its report on October 31, 1997.
