Harnessing Bioeconomy for India’s Development Leap
On 19th March 2026, the Ministry of Science & Technology unveiled the India BioEconomy Report (IBER) 2026 during the 14th Foundation Day of Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) in New Delhi.
- The IBER 2026 provides a holistic and data-driven evaluation of India’s bioeconomy, capturing growth trends, sectoral contributions, innovation dynamics, and policy outcomes.
Understanding Bioeconomy
- It refers to the use of renewable biological resources such as plants, animals, and microorganisms to produce food, energy, and industrial goods.
- It emphasises sustainability, reduced dependence on fossil fuels, and environmentally responsible production systems.
