National Multidimensional Poverty Index
On 17th July, 2023, the government’s think tank, NITI Aayog, released a report, titled ‘National Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI): A Progress Review 2023’.
About MPI
- The first National MPI baseline report for India was released in November, 2021.
- The Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) are its technical partners.
- This second edition of MPI is based on the National Family Health Survey (2019-21). It captures India’s progress in reducing multidimensional poverty between the two surveys, NFHS-4 (2015-16) and NFHS-5 (2019-21).
- It has three equally weighted dimensions – Health, Education, and Standard of Living.
