Floating Solar Parks: Powering India’s Renewable Transition
Recently, the Union Cabinet’s approval of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana (PM-SSY) marks a major policy push for floating solar power in India. With an outlay of ₹5,070 crore, the scheme aims to develop 5,000 MW (5 GW) of floating solar capacity by 2030. By placing solar panels on reservoirs, lakes and other water bodies, the initiative seeks to expand renewable energy while reducing pressure on scarce land resources.
