India’s Female Labour Force Participation: From Workforce Exclusion to Women-Led Growth
Recently, India’s overall Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) fell to 54.6% in April-June 2026, from 55.5% in the previous quarter. The decline was largely driven by women, whose LFPR dropped to 33.2%, while male LFPR remained relatively stable at 77%. The trend highlights the persistent structural barriers preventing women from fully participating in India’s economic growth.
