India and Central Asia: Strengthening India’s Extended Neighbourhood
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Uzbekistan from August 29-30 August 2026 and the Kyrgyz Republic from August 31-September 1, 2026, underscores India’s growing strategic engagement with Central Asia. His visit combines a bilateral engagement with Uzbekistan and participation in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, reflecting India’s interests in regional security, connectivity, energy, critical minerals and economic cooperation.
