West Nile Fever
- Health authorities have sounded an alert and stepped up preventive measures after West Nile fever was detected in three districts of Kerala.
- West Nile virus (WNV) is a vector-borne pathogen that spreads between birds and mosquitoes. It can also infect humans, horses and other mammals.
- WNV was first identified in Uganda in 1937. It was further identified in birds in the Nile Delta region in 1953.
- The virus is prevalent in many parts of the world, including Africa, Europe, the Middle East, North and South America, West Asia and Australia.
