National Commission for Minorities (NCM)

  • No new Chairperson or members have been appointed since the retirement of Iqbal Singh Lalpura in April 2025.
  • It is a statutory body established under the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.
  • Initially set up in 1978 via a resolution of the Ministry of Home Affairs and later brought under the Ministry of Welfare in 1984.
  • In 1988, linguistic minorities were removed from its jurisdiction.
  • First statutory commission was formed on 17 May 1993.
