Gram Swaraj Abhiyaan (GSA) (Sabka Saath, Sabka Gaon, Sabka Vikas)

It was a joint initiative of Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Ministry of Rural Development for a period surpassing Ambedkar Jayanti (14th April to 05th May, 2018).

  • It aims at reaching out to poor households, spreading awareness about government welfare schemes and other people centric initiatives.
  • Here saturation of eligible households in 21058 villages and 530 districts would be made under seven welfare schemes i.e. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Saubhagya, Ujala Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Mission Indradhanush.
  • The most prominent reason for failure of various welfare policies have been poor information dissemination, hence schemes like Gram Swaraj Abhiyan are imperative.
  • Issues and Controversies – It was implemented in a mission mode but the results were varying. For example, under Saubhagya electricity was to be ensured in targeted villages within time specified but in many districts like Vidisha and Bhopal, there were allegations of false reporting.
