Describe the major outcomes of the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Biodiversity Conference. What are the commitments made by India in this conference?
Answer: The Convention on Biological Diversity an international treaty for the conservation of biodiversity, the sustainable use of the components of biodiversity and the equitable sharing of the benefits derived from the use of genetic resources entered into force in December 1993.
The outcomes of COP-15 UN Biodiversity Conference are:
- Adoption of the Kunming Declaration, where Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) committed to negotiate an effective post-2020 global biodiversity framework, referred to as the “Paris Agreement for nature” that can bend the curve of biodiversity loss.
