Srinagar Recognised as World Craft City
On 24th June, 2024, Srinagar became the fourth Indian city to be recognised as a ‘World Craft City’ by the World Crafts Council (WCC).
Key Points
- Crafts of Srinagar: Papier-mache, walnut wood carving, carpets, sozni embroidery and pashmina and kani shawls are some of the crafts from Srinagar.
- Other World Craft Cities in India: Jaipur, Malappuram and Mysore are the other three Indian cities that have earlier been recognised as World Craft Cities.
- Srinagar in Creative City Network (UCCN): In the year 2021, Srinagar was designated as a creative city as a part of the UNESCO Creative City Network (UCCN).
