Acharya Sushruta

On 15th July 2026, the President of India inaugurated 'Saushrutam 2026' at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, on Sushruta Jayanti.

About Acharya Sushruta

  • Acharya Sushruta was a renowned surgeon who flourished around 600 BCE in Kashi (Varanasi).
  • He is believed to have been the son of Sage Vishwamitra and a disciple of Dhanvantari (Divodasa), the King of Kashi.
  • He is widely regarded as the "Father of Indian Surgery" and the "Father of Plastic Surgery" for his pioneering contributions to surgical science.
