Rising Burden of Tuberculosis
On 29th October, 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) released the Global Tuberculosis Report 2024.
- WHO has been publishing Global Tuberculosis (TB) Report every year since 1997.
- The report provides a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the TB epidemic, and of progress in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease at global, regional and country levels.
Major Findings from the Report
India’s Progress on TB
- India saw a slight decline in the estimated number of tuberculosis cases and deaths in 2023.
- India had an estimated 28 lakh TB cases in 2023, accounting for 26% of the global cases.
