National Commission for Minorities

On 20th August 2026, the first meeting of the newly re-constituted National Commission for Minorities (NCM) was held under the chairmanship of Harjit Singh Grewal

About NCM

Established

  • NCM is a statutory body established under the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.

Composition

  • The NCM consists of one Chairperson, one Vice-Chairperson, and five Members.
    • All members are nominated by the Central Government from amongst persons of "eminence, ability, and integrity".
    • At least five members, including the Chairperson, must belong to the notified minority communities.

Mandate & Functions

  • Evaluate the progress of the development of minorities under the Union ....
