Commemorating Rani Chennamma’s Victory at Kittur

On 24th October 2025, the year-long nationwide commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Rani Chennamma’s legendary victory at Kittur concluded with a grand closing ceremony in New Delhi.

  • The Ministry of Culture released a special commemorative coin of Rs 200 denomination as a tribute to Rani Chennamma.

Who was Rani Chennamma?

Early Life

  • Rani Chenamma was born on 23rd October 1778, in Kagati, a small village in present-day Belagavi district in Karnataka.
  • At the age of 15, she married Raja Mallasarja of Kittur, who ruled the province until 1816.
