Medak Fort

In August 2026, the Department of Posts issued a commemorative postal cover and stamp honouring the historic Medak Fort, recognising its cultural and architectural significance.

About Medak Fort

  • Location: Medak town, Telangana.
  • Kakatiya Connection: It was developed during the reign of Kakatiya ruler Pratapa Rudra.
  • Original Name: It was initially known as ‘Methuku Durgam’.
  • Strategic Role: The fort served as an important military and administrative outpost under the Kakatiyas and was subsequently associated with the Qutb Shahi rulers.

Architectural and Physical Features

  • The hill fort covers approximately 100 acres and stands at an elevation of around 90 metres above the surrounding ground level.
